A single pass evacuated tubular collector with a symmetrical compound parabolic concentrator (ETC) has been introduced, experimentally investigated and theoretically analysed in this thesis. The new design ETC is mainly composed of a metal tube coated by a selective absorbing coating and enclosed by glass evacuated tube, as well as two expansion joints at each end to compensate the difference in the expansion coefficients. Correspondingly, the symmetrical CPC has been designed and fabricated using a scratch wood and stainless steel sheet working as a mirror. In addition, detailed one-dimensional numerical models for thermal behaviours of the SPETC with the CPC re{uFB02}ector have been developed and validated with experimental data. The objective of this work is to report the test results of the ETC, evaluate the thermal performances including the temperatures of the different component, heat losses, ETC performance factors, as well as thermal e{uFB03}ciencies, thereby providing useful data for practical solar process heat application
