Abstract

This investigation was carried out at the Farm of Agric. Res. Station, Wadi El-Natrown Area, Fac. Agric., Cairo University, Beheira Governorate, Egypt during 2012 and 2013 autumn seasons. This study was included two individual experiments, the first one was to study the response of two melon cultivars, i.e., Visa (Galia type) and Magenta (Charantais type) to potassium fertilization rate, viz., 100, 150 and 200 kg potassium sulfate/fed. while the second experiment was to study the response of these cultivars to water regime, viz., 10, 15 and 20 m3 water/fed./ each time and their effects on productivity, fruit quality and storageability parameters. In the first experiment, there were significant differences between treatments for the measured traits. The treatment of 150 and 200 kg/fed. had the best results for the measured vegetative growth, number of fruits per plant, fruit weight per plant, and the highest crop yield for both cultivars. In the second experiment, there were significant differences between treatments for the measured traits. The treatment of 15 m3/fed./each time had the best results for the measured vegetative growth, number of fruits per plant, fruit weight per plant, and the highest crop yield for both cultivars. Fruit storageability, cv. Visa gave a significant higher values on weight loss of melon fruit after storage at 5 {u00B0}C than cv. Magenta, but cv. Magenta showed a higher significantly effects on fruit firmness of fruit and on percentage of total soluble solids with all treatments of potassium fertilization rates and water regime during all periods of storage than cv. Visa in both seasons
