Abstract

Acute kidney injury after liver transplantation is a common complication. Renal ischemia reperfusion (IR) injury is a frequent cause of clinical AKI. Unfortunately, creatinine increase is a delayed and unreliable indicator of AKI and its level is affected by several factors other than the GFR. For this reason, acute Dialysis Quality Initiative (ADQI), the AKI network (AKIN) and the American society of nephrology developed the validity of novel biomarkers of AKI. Objectives: The aim of this work is to detect acute kidney injury in perioperative period following Living donor liver transplantation using (Renalase & NGAL) as novel biomarkers, and to assess their clinical utility for detection of acute renal injury related to Calcineurin Inhibitors with possible adjustment of new therapeutic strategies. Results: Although there was significant increase in creatinine values and significant decline in serum renalase values postoperative, serum renalase and Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) did not show significant difference between acute kidney injury (AKI) and non-AKI groups
