Abstract Electrocoagulation is one of the most important methods for the removal of phenolic compounds in the petrochemical industry. The response surface methodology was used to improve the batch system and continuous process to obtain optimal values for the parameters. The removal of 95.3% of phenol under the optimal values of the treatments (time = 30 min; current density=8.59 mA/cm2; initial concentration = 10 mg/L) was achieved in the batch experiments whereas 73% of the percentage removal for continuous conditions (time = 85.52 min; flow rate = 3.5 L/min; phenol concentration = 5 mg/L). |
