Abstract

Since the beginning of war and colonialism, post-colonial literature has appeared in most countries, and several definitions of the term post-colonial literature have emerged. It is the literature that specializes in everything that happens to the occupied and colonial peoples of wars, violence and racism. This literature is descriptive; as the writers described the situation of the country and the situation of the occupied people; they describe the torture that citizens are subjected to because of the occupying forces. This Thesis explains the post-colonial literature and its details and forms, and how this movement appeared in the countries of the world. As for the pioneers of this theory, many influential names will be included in this field, the most important of which is the French writer Franz Fanon, who wrote many works and explained many of the problems faced by peoples due to colonialism. Also, one of the most important and famous writers in this aspect will be addressed, the American Edward Said, who is of Palestinian origin, and is famous for his defense of Arab and Muslim issues and his defense of his country Palestine against the Israeli occupation forces. In Addition, the study explains an important novel of post-war literature in Iraq, the novel of Marines’ Milk by the Iraqi writer Awad Ali, that novel that described the difficult situation that Iraqis live in and outside Iraq because of the war conditions, but at the same time they suffer from alienation and their longing for their country. With this novel and its events, the book The Wretched of the Earth by Frantz Fanon will be explained and it will be applied to the events and details of Awad Ali’s novel. The study also focus on a second Iraqi novel The American Granddaughter by the Iraqi writer Inam Kajah Ji. The novel explained in addition to the most important and famous book by Edward Said, which is Orientalism, in which he was known for his defense of Middle Eastern issues and the issues of Arabs and Muslims. The details of the book explained in addition to its application to the mentioned Iraqi novel. Both Iraqi novels explain the homeland alienation after the war of 2003.
