Abstract

This study defined assessed the therapeutic effect of Cashew Oil, toltrazuril, and their combination to broiler chickens experimentally induced cecal coccidiosis.
In the present study, one hundred and sixty, one day old cobb unsexed broiler chicks were used. The chicks were divided into 8 equal groups (20 chicks each): control non-infected non-treated (G1), non- infected treated with Cashew oil (1.5ml/liter drinking water) (G2), non- infected treated with Toltrazuril (2.5ml/liter drinking water) (G3), non-infected treated with Cashew oil (1ml/liter drinking water) + Toltrazuril (1.25ml/liter drinking water)(G4), control infected with 50.000 sporulated oocysts of Eimeria tenella./bird at 15th day of age and non- treated (G5), infected treated with Cashew oil (1.5ml/liter drinking water) (G6), infected treated with Toltrazuril (2.5ml/liter drinking water) (G7), infected treated with Cashew oil (1ml/liter drinking water) + Toltrazuril (1.25ml/liter drinking water) (G8). Treatment by drugs started at 5th dpi. in drinking water and continued for 3 successive days.
The comparison between the different treatments was based on the clinical signs, postmortem examinations, mortality rate, oocysts count, birds performances. The hematological, biochemical, oxidative stress marker, antioxidant enzymes alterations and histopathological changes in cecum, liver and kidney, which may occur in birds following infection and administration of the tested drugs were evaluated.
The results of this study, it can be concluded that the chemical drug toltrazuril (control drug) and the natural drug (Cashew oil) have the same anticoccidial effect. Combination between toltrazuril and Cashew oil elicited the best results.
