Abstract

Bariatric surgery is an effective treatment for severe obesity that leads to the improvement and remission of many obesity-related comorbidities, sustained weight loss over time, improvement in quality of life and prolonged survival.

The long-term results of this operation have shown an acceptable excess weight loss, however weight gain and “de novo” gastroesophageal reflux symptoms may appear.
Therefore, the aim of this current study was to estimate the incidence of GERD post laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy among 41 patients with morbid obesity and indicated for laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy who come to outpatient clinics of Surgery department at Suez Canal University Hospitals. The majority of our recruited patients had a mean age of 38.12 (±9.74) and were females (73.2%).
Detailed history was obtained from the patients, as well as clinical examination and the RESQ-7 questionnaire for assessment of GERD was adapted to screen for GERD.

Also, there were marked reduction in the weight and BMI post-operatively. Furthermore, when comparing the post-operative BMI of the patients who developed
