Abstract

The energy harvesting system is one of the hot research topics, especially for IoT applications. The system helps to provide an energy source for other systems by harvesting energy from various transducers such as DC and RF transducers. The proposed system simultaneously harvests from dual sources, hence having maximum available power from the energy sources. The system has an MPPT state machine that used the hill-climbing algorithm to achieve high end-to-end e ciency across di erent input and output conditions.
The thesis introduces an energy harvesting system that harvests simultane- ously from two DC transducers such as TEG and solar. The system contains a smart state machine that seeks to track the maximum power point through changing multiple dimensions as the rst and second converter conversion ratio, switching frequency, and switches supply. The proposed system is chosen to be a capacitive-based converter to get the advantage of integrating the energy harvesting system on chip.
The system is designed using 0.13µm CMOS technology and simulated using
cadence spectre simulator. The system’s active area is 1.8 mm2, dominated by 1.6 nF cap. The system supports input resistance ranging from 1.39 kΩ up to 450 kΩ. The system achieves a peak end-to-end e ciency of 82.5% at the highest power load and output voltage of 1V.
