Abstract As mentioned before, no previous studies were done on Callista chione in Egypt. Therefore this is the first attempt to study some biological aspects of this species. In order to improve the state of current production and fishery management, as well as a base for introduction of its potential aquaculture, a detailed study and evaluation of the biological characteristics of C. chione, specifically regarding its growth and reproduction needs to be done. This is why this thesis includes the following information: 1- Identify the target species (C. chione) using the molecular examination of nucleotide sequence for cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) gene. 2- Study the population characteristics depending on size frequency distribution of C. chione in Timsah Lake to determine different age cohorts, growth parameters and mortality and exploitation rates. 3- Investigate of the sex ratio, size at first sexual maturity, monthly gonadal development stages and the annual reproductive cycle and determine the spawning season |
