Abstract Acute Ischemic stroke is a major health problem it is one of major causes of mortality and disability in Adults worldwide. Ischemic stroke has several etiologies that includes large vessel atherosclerosis, cardio embolism, lacunar stroke, stroke of other determined etiologies and stroke of undetermined etiologies. The extra-cranial carotid artery stenosis is considered one of the commonest risk factors of ischemic stroke in which patients are usually hypertensive, diabetic, smokers and have dyslipidemia. Accurate assessment of carotid artery stenosis helps in 2ry prevention of ischemic stroke and is also helpful in determining the plan of treatment as regarding medical, surgical or interventional approaches. There are different modalities to asses the carotid artery pathologies such as: Ultrasound carotid Duplex, CT Angiography, Tran cranial Doppler (TCD) and MRA. Our study was conducted to compare between two of these modalities: Ultrasound carotid duplex and CT angiography as regarding the degree of carotid stenosis and the different characteristics of the plaques causing stenosis in patients presented by acute ischemic stroke. The study was a Cross sectional study, conducted in Menoufia University hospitals on 50 (Fifty) patients of both sexes They were 14 (Fourteen) females (28%) and 36 (Thirty-six) males (72 %) with Ischemic Cerebrovascular stroke, admitted to the neurology department of Menoufia University hospitals, it was approved by the ethics committee of the Faculty of medicine Menoufia University (MFM), June 2021. The age of the patients included in this study was ranged from 19 – 78 (Nineteen to seventy-Eight) years old. |
