Abstract

Cancer is the leading cause of death in the world after cardiovascular diseases. Cancer cells are characterized by their ability to divide irregularly and on a large scale. Several treatments are used to treat cancer patients, including traditional treatments such as surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, hormone therapy, and non-traditional treatments such as stem cell therapy, immunotherapy, gene therapy, and nanotherapy. Despite the beneficial treatment of chemotherapy, it has harmful side effects on the vital organs of the body. Cisplatin (Cis) is one of the most important chemical drugs used to treat many types of cancer such as lung, breast, liver, kidney, blood and myeloma, but it has severe side effects on vital organs in the body. Therefore, finding new anti-tumor agents that are less toxic to healthy cells and tissues than current treatments is an urgent necessity for researchers in the field of tumor biology. Therefore, recent studies focus on natural compounds derived from plant or animal sources. Vertebrate organisms are considered a source of natural compounds with an antitumor effect as well. Therefore, previous studies showed that PGS have potent effects on inhibiting the growth of various cancer cells, arresting the cell cycle, and inducing programmed cell death.
