Abstract

First and foremost, all praise and all thanks to
AALLLLAAHH, who has guided and enabled me by his mercy to
fulfill this thesis which I hope to be beneficial for all.

Medicine - Cairo University for her most valuable advises

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Asthma is the most common chronic disease of childhood.
Over diagnosis of childhood asthma is common in primary care, leading to
unnecessary treatment and disease burden. Assessing asthma management in the
community is essential to plan for intervention to improve asthma control.
Aim: The aim of this work was to assess the knowledge of parents of children
with asthma about diagnosis and treatment of asthma in their children, assess the
knowledge of physicians about diagnosis and treatment of asthma in children.
Methods: This study was carried out on 300 of children diagnosed with asthma,
300 of physicians including (pediatricians, general practitioners, family medicine
doctors).
Results: This study showed that, regarding evaluation of diagnosis of bronchial
asthma, only 12% of patient had acceptable knowledge about asthma diagnosis,
regarding evaluation of treatment knowledge among parents of asthmatic
children, (66.3%) of patient had acceptable knowledge about asthma treatment
and (33.7%) had unacceptable knowledge, regarding evaluation of diagnosis
knowledge among physicians, only (48%) of physicians had acceptable
knowledge, regarding evaluation of treatment and control knowledge among
physicians, (78.7%) of physicians had acceptable knowledge.
Conclusion: Based on the results of the current study, the knowledge of parents
of asthmatic children regarding asthma was insufficient. It can be identified
genuine issues in asthma management; only 48% showed a good acceptable
knowledge regarding diagnosis, the lack of knowledge among physicians should
be addressed more seriously; such issue can be crucial in asthma control
