Abstract

The neglection of the Geological heritage in general as well as the abiotic aspects of the Ecological system as a crucial part of our Natural heritage and its issues that needed to be resolved such as conservation management, documentation, etc. has led to a scarcity of studies and information sources in those regards and without conserving the dual aspects of the ecological system both biotic and abiotic no true conservation could be achieved. As for the conservation of the case study at hand as an extinction of the natural heritage of Egypt, it lacks the proper interpretation facilities and presentation combined with the scarcity of information sources to serve a wide range of visitors most of the tour guides, as well as the local and international visitors, evade the opportunity to visit such a remarkable natural rare aspect that despite the mere fact it is In midst of famous touristic routes and only 9 kilometers off the infamous ancient Pyramids of Giza.
El Hassana Dome Protected area is a clear example of Geo-Heritage site neglection as well as a highlight of a misconception of protected site types and objectives, as it was labelled as several protected areas categories based on several resources among which the term urban protected area was absent regardless of its importance as a key feature of the site thus direct observation alongside documents analysis of the case study at hand were used to spot the several site types applicable to the aspects of the Protected area. The IUCN has established six main categories regarding the proper management of protected areas worldwide and recognizes four main governance types in the description of their jurisdiction based on that This thesis aims to clarify the categories of management and governance of El Hassana Dome Protected Area depending on induction and analytical approach. using qualitative methods and approaches such as direct observation and de-briefing the ICOMOS ‘Ename charter was used regarding the in-situ interpretation evaluation as the nearest possible for natural heritage and the METT Model for the management, and threats assessment of the protected area as it is recommended for small scaled protected areas.
A major outcome of this thesis is the explanation of the direct link between the dome of el Hassana and the formation structure of AbuRoash and their linkage to the massively scaled formation of The Syrian Arch Folds that extends from Syria through Palestine, Sinai, Abu Roash, tell it Reaches the Bahriya Oasis. And the thesis shed light on the attribute of the site as an urban protected area while evaluating the actual management efficiency of the site and the critical gaps in its actual management and the interpretational gaps in the site, lastly, the thesis determines the severity of threats facing the site following the METT assessment tool for management efficacy of protected areas as a rapid assessment based on a scorecard questions includes all six main elements of management identified in the IUCN-WCPA. Framework (context, planning, inputs, process, outputs, and outcomes), the scale of which they affect the site, and proposing ways to overcome them
