Identity is one of the problems that accompanied the endeavors to build the national state in North African countries. However, with the orientation of the political regimes to emphasize the Arab identity of their state, this was met with an objection by the Amazigh groups who see themselves as the indigenous peoples of North Africa, such orientation interacted with a number of internal and external factors leading to an identity crisis that tops the challenges facing political stability in the countries of the region. Accordingly, the problem of the study was determined in the possibility of coexistence between the Arab and Amazigh identities, and to what extent it could affect the political stability in the countries of the region. So, the study was divided into five chapters, the first dealt with the concept of identity and its components and its problem in North African countries, the second dealt with the legal and political framework of identity in North African countries, and the third dealt with the components of the Arab and Amazigh identities, the fourth chapter dealt with the variables affecting the Arab and Amazigh identities, the Fifth dealt the practices of the Arab and Amazigh identities within the framework of the political systems of North Africa since independence. The conclusion included the researcher’s vision of the aspects of the identity crisis in North African countries and its future prospects.
