Abstract

The CKD affects populations all over the world. Approximately 850,000 people die each year from renal and urinary tract disorders, and more than 115 million people live with a disability-adjusted life years are lost as a result, according to the WHO. The 12th leading cause of mortality and the 17th major cause of disability, respectively, is CKD. Low- and middle-income nations are disproportionately affected by the inability to provide care for many patients who are at risk of and in need of treatment for ESKD(Jafari, Ebrahimi, Aghaei, & Khatony, 2018).
Aim of the study:
To assess the quality of life among chronic hemodialysis patients at Minia City.
Study design:
This study used a descriptive cross-sectional design.
Settings:
This study was conducted at the outpatient clinic of hemodialysis unit at Minia kidney university hospital and in the patients’ home.
Sample:-
In this investigation, a convenient sample method was used. All 100 chronic HD patients that visited the HD unit at the Urology Hospital in Minia City were chosen by the investigator.
Data Collection Tool:
Tools for data collection will be consisted of two tools:
Tool I: Structured interview questionnaire was created by the researcher to collect data related to;
- Part (one): Age, gender, marital status, educational attainment, occupation, place of residence, number of families, family income, phone number, and patient address are among the socio-demographic characteristics of the patients under study.
- Part (two): Medical history of patient. This section covers the patient’s past and present medical history, length of time on hemodialysis, number of sessions/weeks, session length, and problems.
Tool II:- (Whoqol) Quality Of Life by World Health Organization, (2012) The WHO created it, and the investigator used it. The measure consists of 50 questions that span six major categories of quality of life, each of which is broken down into 29 different components. Physical, social, psychological, environmental, level of independence, and spirituality are among these six dimensions. There are various subdomains (facets) of QOL within each domain. These are the six main domains:
Pilot Study:-
Prior to beginning the data collection, a pilot study (10%) of the sample was conducted to assess the viability and application of the questionnaire and to determine the best time to do so. Because some adjustments were made to the questionnaire to make certain questions clearer, the results of the pilot study were not included in the study’s findings.
Procedure of data collection
• Before starting data collection, an official letter had been taken from the Dean of the faculty of Nursing at Minia University to head manager of Urology Menia University Hospital, asking for permission to collect data.
• To secure their participation and permit meeting with patients, the study’s goals and objectives were communicated to the director of the hemodialysis unit at Urology Minia University Hospital.
• Before beginning data collection, the investigator visited the hemodialysis unit and led sessions to briefly explain the purpose and nature of the study as well as how to complete this questionnaire by direct personal communication. Oral consent was also collected from the participants.
• The investigator completed all questionnaires after consulting with the patient.
• Depending on the patient’s tolerance, the questionnaire took between ten and fifteen minutes, and each patient was free to ask any questions to clarify any misunderstandings.
• from the start of August to the end of October 2021, three months worth of data were gathered.
• The investigator visited the HD unit facilities twice a week during regular business hours, from eight AM to twelve PM.
The present study revealed the following main results:
 Based on the findings of the present study, it can be summarized that, less than two third of the chronic HD patients’ age ranges from (38-48) years.
 More than three quarters of chronic HD patients had hypertension nephron sclerosis as their primary renal diagnosis, and more than half were men.
 the most of the chronic HD patient had bad QOL on the other hand the patient minority had fair QOL.
The correlation between the overall QOL score and marital status, educational attainment, the size of the family, and income was statistically significant.
