Abstract Rabbitfish, Siganus rivulatus is one of the most popular fishes inhabiting the Red Sea and migrated then widely distributed in the Mediterranean Sea. The present work was carried out to study different aspects of the fishery of S. rivulatus in Suez Bay, Gulf of Suez, and Red Sea as fishery statistics, fishery biology, and biological reference points. Monte Carlo method-based Surplus Production Model CMSY was used to predict the biological reference points (BRPs) for S. rivulatus using catch time series data 2000-2015. Totally 427 individuals of S. rivulatus were sampled from the catch of trammel net from October 2018 to May 2019. Seasonal change in the catch of S. rivulatus was evaluated for the period of 2000 to 2017. Each fish specimen was measured, weighed, and then dissected to detect the maturity stage of the gonads. The estimated length at first maturity was 15.5 cm for males and 18.0 cm for females. Spawning occurred during May. The length-weight relationship was: W = 0.013 * L2.9838. |
