Abstract Background; Obesity is a global epidemic and bariatric surgery is used with increasing frequency to treat its complications. The extent to which bariatric surgery alters the efficacy, safety, and pharmacokinetics of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) is unknown, Aim and objectives; to evaluate the safety and efficacy of direct oral anti coagulant post bariatric surgery, Subjects and methods: This study was single arm clinical trial, was conducted at General surgery department, Cairo University hospitals on 40 Patients undergoing bariatric surgery between November 2021 and April 2022, Result; There was statistically insignificant difference between types of operation regarding complications, Conclusion; Obesity is a global epidemic and bariatric surgery is used with increasing frequency to prevent and treat its complications. There remains considerable uncertainty on the optimal anticoagulant strategy after bariatric surgery despite how commonly these patients develop VTE or atrial fibrillation. Future research should compare DOACs with warfarin and correlate DOAC pharmacokinetic parameters with adverse clinical outcomes in this population. |
