Abstract This study was conducted to measure and compare the candida growth on two single denture base materials. First material is rabid heat cured acrylic risen the other material is heat cure acrylic resin material modified by titanium dioxide nanoparticles . The study was carried out on seventeen patients with completely edentulous maxilla that they were randomly selected from the eligible patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Standard dentures were constructed. Each patient received two dentures, after duplication of the master casts using duplicating silicone mold. One made of rapid heat cure acrylic denture base and the other was made of heat cure acrylic denture base with titanium dioxide nanoparticles. Swabs were taken from the oral mucosa covering the crest of the ridge using sterile cotton swabs. Four swabs were collected for each patient, the first one was at time before first denture insertion then one month after denture insertion. Wash out period was applied for one month between the two types of dentures to ensure that normal flora returned to the normal condition. After that, swabs were collected before second denture insertion and the other swab was taken one month after insertion. Swabs were emulsified in 1 ml nutrient broth then three serial dilution (10-1,10-2, 10-3) were made for each sample. Samples were plated in Brain Heart Infusion agar. Three plates were incubated for 24 hours at 370 C under aerobic conditions and another three plates were incubated for 48 hours at 37 C under anaerobic conditions. 65 The plates were examined for growth of bacterial colonies which expressed in terms of CFU/ml. The number of colonies in each group were counted and recorded separately then sent for statistical analysis. After one month the statistics had shown no significant difference in candida count with the denture made with acrylic resin with titanium dioxide nanoparticles to what it was before insertion. And on the other hand there was significant difference after one month insertion with the rabid heat cured acrylic resin denture compared to what it was before insertion. The candida colonization count was significantly elevated |
