Abstract

The present study investigated some helminth parasites infecting some reptilian species
inhabiting the South Sinai desert, Egypt. Lizards were collected from January to September
2018. The collected lizard species were ocellated skink Chalcides ocellatus, white-spotted gecko
Tarentola annularis, and rainbow skink Mabuya quinquetaeniata. The prevalence of parasitic
infections (nematodes) among the examined lizard species was studied. Different three
Nematoda species were recorded; these were Thelandros chalcidiae sp. nov., Spauligodon
aspiculus Khera (1961), Pharyngodon mamillatus Linstow (1897). The present investigation of
parasitic infections was carried out using morphological and morphometric characterizations by
using light and scanning electron microscopy. In addition, molecular analyses of 28S rRNA gene
sequences for two of the recovered nematodes and their phylogenetic relationships were applied
to detect their exact taxonomy.
