Abstract

Aim of study: The aim of this study was to assess the accuracy of shade matching and degree of translucency of two different zirconia based materials and techniques. Materials and methods: Prettau Zirkon, Ice Zirconia Translucent and Ice Zirconia Ceramic were used in this study, Samples were divided according to type of zirconia into two groups of 10 samples each: group A: Prettau zirconia, group B : Conventional layering technique. Each group was subdivided into two sub-groups of 5 samples each according to the shade (A1, A3). Twenty zirconia ceramic discs were constructed from prefabricated zirconia ceramic blocks using the Zirkonzahn CAD/CAM system. Fabrication of group A discs: Zirconia Prettau discs of 1.5 mm thickness and 11 mm in diameter. group B discs: Conventionally veneered zirconia discs made of 1.5 mm thickness (0.5 core zirconia and covered by 1 mm porcelain) and 11 mm in diameter. All samples were subjected to color measurements using a spectrophotometer. Results: The results showed that ceramic type, shade and the interaction between the two variables had a statistically significant effect on mean translucency. Conclusion: Prettau as a full contoured zirconia restoration can be used in both anterior and posterior teeth as it showed higher translucency and closer shade matching values than the veneered conventional zirconia
