Abstract As life expectancy increased, the elderly and children constitute large portion of the world wide population today. Because of the physiological changes associated with elderly, they have difficulties in taking conventional oral dosage forms as they are quite unable to swallow. Swallowing problems also are common in young population because of their underdeveloped muscular and nervous systems. Other groups that may experience problems using conventional oral dosage forms include stroke victims, bedridden patients, nauseated patients and patients who refuse to swallow, such as psychiatric patients. |
