Abstract

Background: Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Egyptian women. Urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA) and tissue type plasminogen activator (tPA) are key molecules in proteolysis, a process that play an important role in tumor invasion and metastasis. Purpose: to evaluate the levels of plasma urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA) and tissue type plasminogen activator (tPA) concentrations in normal women as control group and women have breast cancer as studied group. Conclusion: Both uPA and tPA are activated in breast cancer patients and they can be considered as a biomarker of diagnosis and assessment for breast cancer and we conclude that the elevated medians of uPA and tPA concentrations in plasma of untreated groups can be reversed by treatment efficacy achieved through chemotherapy
