Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of distalization of both maxillary first and second molars using by miniscrews placed at the palatal slopes bilaterally. The sample consisted of 10 patients (9 girls and 2 boys) mean age (14 - 19 years old) with full eruption of second molars and extraction of third molars. Distalization of maxillary first and second molars were attempted by using an appliance assembly that consisted of maxillary transpalatal arch soldered at the maxillary first molars with two hooks soldered at the area of maxillary canines, and supported by two miniscrews inserted in the palatal slopes. Activation of the appliance was done by using elastomeric chain that extended from the soldered hooks to the miniscrews. The appliance assembly used in the present study was successful in maxillary first, second molars and maxillary second premolars distalization by mean of 5.5 mm, 4.3 mm and 4.8 mm respectively to an overcorrected Class I relationship in a mean time of 12 months with maintenance of maxillary incisors at their pre-distalization position at the end of treatment both vertically and sagitally. There was non - statistically significant change in the angular skeletal measurements before and after distalization while most of the changes were dental
