Abstract

Back ground: Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in men (663 000 cases, 10.0% of the total) and the second in women (571 000 cases, 9.4% of the total) worldwide. Almost 60% of the cases occur in developed regions. (Globocan 2008). Recent studies indicated that there are differences between left and right colon cancer with regard to epidemiology, clinical manifestations, pathology and prognosis, the present systemic study focuses on this subject Patients and Methods: During a 5-year period (2008-2012) data on all patients with colon cancer were evaluated, right and left sided cancers were compared regarding the several parameters including demographic factors, co morbidities and histology, in addition to survival data The 1ry end point was the comparison between Right and Left side Colonic Cancer as regard different clinicopathological characteristics and the 2ry end point was the comparison between Right and left side colonic cancer as regards progression free survival and overall survival. Results: 228 patients were reviewed, according to tumor location; female gender was more in right side cancer colon patients than left side cancer colon patients. , mean while age was not a statistically significant risk factor between both sides. Patients of left sided colon cancer were diagnosed as metastatic cases at first presentation with a statistically significant difference (p=0.023) and by a nearly significant difference in liver metastasis at presentation in comparison to those of right sided colon cancer patients (p=0.036). Overall survival and progression free survival were similar in both sides.
