Abstract In this study we are targeting improvement of drought tolerance of some superior Egyptian rice cultivars, namely 2Sakha 1013, 2Sakha 1043 and 2Giza 1773 with two different genotype japonica and Japonica/Indica through the over expression of DREB2A gene of pokkali rice under 35S promoter, hygromycin resistance gene, controlled by the CaMV35S promoter, as selectable marker and Gus as a reporter gene. Reproducible and efficient regeneration system of the Egyptian rice cultivars was established and the work is going on to optimize factors affecting agrobacterium - mediated transformation and biolistic bombardment, molecular and physiological investigations of putative transformants |
