Abstract

The clinical career ladder promotion designed to recognize staff nurse and give them chance for promotion in a horizontal track; depending on educational degree, years of experience, competence of practical skills and attending training educational programs. The study aim was exploring the nursing staff opinion about clinical career ladder in Elmanial University Hospitals; a descriptive research design was conducted to achieve the study aim the study. A representative sample was 400 nursing staff; who was agreed to participate in this study. Data were collected through opinionnair sheet designed by the investigator. The study results denoted that; majority of the nursing staff were bed side, technical, and graduate from secondary nursing school. More than half of nursing staff agreed on three nursing clinical career ladder levels; agreed on the description of each three clinical career ladder levels. In addition to the nurses needed to clinical career ladder promotion, agreed of expected clinical career ladder outcome on the organization and patient care. Presence of high statistical significant difference was presented in almost items of the study result. The study concluded that; the nursing staff preferred that ”clinical promotion depends on competence of practical skills and years of experience rather than educational degree
