Abstract The coordination chemistry of the Cr(III), Mn(II), Fe(III), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) with mononegative tridentate guaifenesin (GFS) ligand (as primary ligand) and glycine amino acid and 1,10-phenanthroline (as secondary ligands) were elucidated. The metal complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, molar conductance, IR, 1H NMR, UV-Visible spectral analysis, solid reflectance spectra, magnetic moment, ESR, mass spectroscopy, XRD and thermal analyses techniques. The guaifenesin (GFS) ligand is tridentately coordinating via the etheric C-O function of phenoxy and methoxy group and the deprotonated hydroxyl oxygen, resulting in 6-coordinate octahedral geometry of most of these series of binary and ternary metal complexes. The guaifenesin (GFS) ligand and its binary and ternary chelates were subjected to thermal analyses (TG and DTG). The biological activity (antimicrobial and antibreastic cancer activity) of the GFS ligand and its binary and ternary complexes were also screened |
