Abstract
Background: Pain is an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage, or described in terms of such damage. Objective: The aim of this work is to evaluate the role of oral sucrose as a non pharmacologic tool for procedural pain relief in full term newborns. Patients and methods: This study is a prospective study that was conducted on 60 full term newborns in the first week of life. The cases group: 30 patients, received 2 ml of 24% sucrose solution by mouth 2 minutes before the painful procedure (vein puncture or heel lance). The control group: 30 patients, received sterile water by mouth. All are admitted to (NICU) of Boulak EL dakrour General Hospital in the period from January to May, 2014
