Abstract

Background and objective: Warfarin is a commonly used oral anticoagulant with various genetic and clinical factors that influence dose requirements. This study investigated the impact of genetic and non-genetic factors on warfarin maintenance dose requirements in Egyptian pediatric patients. Methods: DNA was extracted from 41 Egyptian pediatric patients on warfarin therapy. CYP2C9 (*2 &*3) and VKORC1(C1173T and G-1639A) genotyping were determined for gene polymorphism by using Real-Time PCR Systems using multiplex allele-specific hybridization probes and consequent melting curve analysis according to the manufacturer protocol (ROCHE, Germany). Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS Version 17.0 Quantitative data were presented as mean ± SD or median (range) and compared using Student{u2019}s t-test
