Abstract

Our strategy in the main body of the thesis was focused on using polysorbate-80 as a third component with the three based hydrophilic polymers namely: PVP-K30 , PEG 4000 and PEG 6000 - individually- as a carrier , at low drug : polymer mass ratio : 1: 1, coupled with minimum surfactant concentrations: 2, 5 and 10 % w/w. In all cases, the co-solvent evaporation technique (Chloroform) was utilized for preparation of all SDs and the dissolution rate was also used as the main parameter to investigate and compare various prepared formulations. In addition physicochemical analyses include: Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Powder X-Ray Diffraction (PX-RD) were also carried out to investigate solid state characterizations of certain selected preparations and their based components.Results obtained revealed that all prepared SDs -in general- have significantly improved the rate and extent of drug dissolution compared to crystalline drug, as well as its binary physical mixtures. Furthermore, ternary SDs at their different concentration levels were much better in performance over binary SDs contain drug : polymer mass ratios: 1: 1, 1: 2, 1: 3 and 1: 5 - with each polymer - individually
