Abstract

Purpose/Objective: Know the real situation of gastric carcinoma, regarding the incidence, epidemiological data and treatment given and it is results. Patients and methods: Retrospective study, including all cases with gastric adenocarcinoma who presented to NEMROCK during the period from January 2003 to December 2013, only 92 cases were evaluable. They were evaluated regarding epidemiological data, clinical presentation, pathological features and evaluation of all treatment modalities used for management of these cases regarding response and their effect on survival. Results: The median 10 years NEMROCK incidence of gastric adenocarcinoma was 0.94%. Male to female ratio in the present study was approximately equal with slightly more to female part (0.9:1). The majority of patients were between 40-60 years (55.4%). The median age at diagnosis was 49 years. Most common site of gastric adenocarcinoma is the distal part (pylorus). Majority of patients (59.8%) present with high grade tumors. Clinically, Abdominal pain and dyspepsia were the most common presenting symptoms (82.6%) followed by vomiting (54.3%) and weight loss. The majority of cases presented in advanced disease, 59.8% present with metastatic disease stage IV, followed by stage III (26.1%). For early stage disease, patients who underwent surgical excision and received adjuvant chemotherapy and radiotherapy, median time for detection of recurrence was 16 months (range 3-38 months). Median survival of metastatic patients in our study was 8 months. Younger patients (below 40 years) had significant lower median survival (6 months) than non-younger patients (above 40 years)
