Abstract

The world crop production is clearly limited by the different environmental stresses. This study addresses using transgenes and investigating the presence of abiotic stress tolerant genes for the improvement of the abiotic stress tolerance in plants and microorganisms. The trehalose sugar offers great tools to address these challenges. Trehalose - like genes TPS1 and OtSA in plants and bacteria, respectively play an important role in both beneficial and pathogenic processes. The analysis of the available plant and bacterial genome sequence database in Gen Bank confirmed the presence of TPS1 and OtSA genes for trehalose biosynthesis in some native plants and non - pathogenic bacteria respectively. In the present investigation, the conserved regions among both these genomes in plants and bacteria were used to construct the degenerate primers that amplified the 645 and 530 bps of TPS1 and OtSA related sequences in these native plants and non-pathogenic bacteria , respectively. In addition, the in silico approach was used to investigate the existence of the natural sequence of the trehalose TPS1 in nine medicinal plants i. e. L. termis, A. sativa C. citratas, D. stramonium, H. sabdarriffa , N. sativa, R. officinalis, F. vulgare and M. peregrina
