Abstract

The crystal structure and transport properties of the salts [(CH₂)₇(NH₃)2]MX₂, X = Cl/Br and organic-inorganic hybrids [(CH₂)₇(NH₃)₂]MCl₄-xBrx; M= Co⁺² and Mn⁺², x = 0, 2 and 4, [(CH₂)₇(NH₃)₂]CdX₄; X = Cl/Br and the mixed metal [(CH₂)₇(NH₃)₂]Mn₀.₇Cd₀.₃Cl₄ are investigated. [(CH₂)₇(NH₃)₂]MX₂, X = Cl[crystallizes in monoclinic, P2₁/c, a = 4.7838 (2) Å, b = 16.9879 (8) Å, c = 14.9476 (8) Å, Ý = 97.773 (2) {u00B0}, V = 1203.58(10) ų, Z = 4, D = 1.147 Mg/m³, n = 0.71073 Å, R = 0.052 for 1055 reflections with I > 2{uF073}(I), T = 298(2) K. The corresponding bromide is monoclinic, P21/c, a = 4.7952 (10) Å, b = 16.9740 (5) Å, c = 14.9281 (5) Å, Ý = 97.793 (2) {u00B0}, V = 1203.83(6) ų, Z= 4, D = 1.612 Mg/m³, a= 0.71073 Å, R = 0.03 for 1959 reflections with I > 2бШУф020Щ(I) T = 298(2) K. The organic hydrocarbon layers pack in a stacked herring-bone manner with hydrogen bonds to the chloride/bromide ions. Lattice energy are U(pot) = 1568.598 kJ/mol and 1560.78 kJ/mol, molecular volumes Vm (chloride) = 0.295 nm³ and Vm (bromide) = 0.3008 nm³ , and, the volume of the cation C7H20N2, becomes V+= 0.235 and 0.228 nm3 for chloride and bromide respectively
