Abstract The porposes of this study were to determine the effect of static stretch of tensor fasciae latae on quadriceps activity(Rectus femoris, Vastus medialis oblique, and Vastus lateralis) from squatposition in adolescents and to estimate any measurement differencesaccording to gender. Methods:For this purpose, 40adolescents participated in this study, they were assigned into two study groups according to gender 20 girls and 20 boys and they were assessed by using Universal goniometer to measure quadriceps angle andsEMG electrode was used to assess quadriceps muscle activity of Vastus medialis oblique, Vastus lateralis and Rectus femoris before and after static stretch of tensor fasciae lataefrom squat position. Results:Vastus medialis oblique, Vastus lateralis, and Rectus femoris muscle activity did not differ significantly in terms of amplitude, duration, onset time or discharge ratebefore and after static stretch of tensor fasciaelatae, and there was no significant difference in measured variablesbetween boys and girls. Conclusions:Static stretch of tensor fasciae latae has no effect on the amplitude, duration, onset timeor discharge rate of Vastus medialis oblique,Vastus lateralis and Rectus femoris.Static stretch of tensor fasciae latae has no effect on quadriceps muscle activity in both genders. |
