Abstract

Vertically unstable pelvic ring fractures (AO type C) are complex, potentially life threatening injuries with long term sequelae. Till the moment, a universally agreed algorithm for their stabilization is lacking. Using the lumbar spine as a pillar to support the unstable hemipelvis is gaining popularity and a lot of modifications to lumbopelvic construct have been added.
Aim of the work: To analyze the radiographic and functional results of the principle of lumbopelvic fixation for the treatment of vertically unstable (AO type C) posterior pelvic ring injuries
Study Design: Prospective clinical case study.
Patients and Methods: During a 4-year period (2017-2021), 25 patients with vertically unstable posterior pelvic injuries were treated with the principle of lumbopelvic fixation at level one trauma center. Patients were followed-up prospectively as a single cohort, with . Inclusion criteria for this study were skeletally mature patients with a vertically unstable pelvic ring injury associated with a sacral fracture or sacroiliac joint fracture dislocation. Minimum follow-up, both clinically and radiographically was 1 year.
Computed tomography scan was performed on all patients at 9 months to assess healing of the fracture. Functional outcome was assessed using the Majeed score.
