Abstract Corrosion is the deterioration of metal by chemical attack or reaction with its environment. It is a constant and continuous problem, often difficult to eliminate completely. Prevention would be more practical and achievable than complete elimination. Generally, the electrochemical process (ECP) is a post-processing method that can be used for surface property improvement. A range of metallic materials can be polished including copper, nickel, or titanium; however, a lot of research has been conducted on copper [1]. It is worth mentioning that in corrosion in general two surface phenomena happen, namely anodic leveling and anodic brightening. Anodic leveling results from the different dissolution rates of the peaks and valleys of the surface texture of the substrate due to the primary current distribution in the cell. In these cases, the amount of the primary current distribution has a significant effect on the material dissolution (mass transfer), which leads to a reduction in the surface roughness by several microns. Anodic brightening improves the surface roughness due to control of the dissolution rate for the metal microstructure. |
