Abstract This thesis presents experimental tests for shear strengthening techniques using the ETS system. The shear behaviour of 13 RC box girders is evaluated in this thesis. The box girders were 3000 mm long and had a box section with overall dimensions of 450 mm (flange width) by 350 mm (total depth). The thickness of the flanges and the webs were 80 mm. A number of parameters were investigated for these beams, namely the effect of spacing between stirrups, the effect of position of ETS bars, the effect of the types of ETS bars, and the effect of pre-stressing level and position. This thesis is divided into six chapters: an introduction, a literature survey that contains a detailed review of the previous research work in the field of traditional strengthened or repaired systems and mineral-based composite systems, experimental work, and its tools. Materials used in the experimental program, specimen configuration, testing setup, and instruments are described, as are the experimental results of the tested box girders. Deflections, strains, cracking loads, yielding loads, failure loads, and modes of failure are presented and discussed. |
