Abstract

The nurse manager creating a work environment in which nurse-physician collaboration is the expected norm. Therefore, successful collaboration depending on; all team members should have clear idea about what to be achieved and team members should be working to meet the same goals or objectives for service users and patients (Kamel & Rashad, 2019). Professional autonomy means having the authority to make decisions and the freedom to act in accordance with one’s professional knowledge base. An understanding of autonomy is needed to clarify and develop the nursing profession in rapidly changing health care environments and internationally (Oshodi et al., 2019). Teamwork is crucial for providing safe and high-quality care. Team commitment leads members to feel that they are part of the same superordinate group, which includes different professional groups (Aghamohammadi et al., 2019).
This study aimed to assess the nurse-physician collaboration and its’ relation to professional autonomy and team commitment among nurses through: assessing nurse – physician collaboration as perceived by nurses, measuring professional autonomy level among nurses, measuring team commitment level among nurses and finding out the relationship between nurse –physician collaboration and professional autonomy and team commitment among nurses.
Research question: Is there a relationship between nurse-physician collaboration and professional nursing autonomy and team commitment as perceived by nurses?
A descriptive correlational design was used in carrying out this study and this study was conducted in Dar El Sheffa hospital, which affiliated to specialized medical centers secretariat, which affiliated to ministry of health and population. Also, total number of nurses working in the above-mentioned setting is 460 nurses’ and sample size was 210 nurses.
Three main tools were used to collect data namely: Nurse-physician collaboration scale, Professional autonomy scale and Team commitment scale.
Results
 The results of the current study revealed that more than half of the nurses participating in the study (54.8%) had high level regarding total Nurse – Physician Collaboration. While, more than fifth (21.4%) of them had low level regarding Nurse – Physician Collaboration.
 More than half (57.1%) of them had high professional autonomy level.
 More than half (52.4%) of them had high total team commitment level. While, more than fifth (21.4%) of them had low level regarding total team commitment.
 There were highly positive correlation between total Nurse–Physician Collaboration and professional autonomy, and team commitment among nurses.
