Abstract

Polymeric hydrogel has the ability to swell and hold the volume of the sorbed aqueous solution in its network. This polymeric network is prevented from dissolving due to the chemical or physical bonds formed between the polymer chains [1, 2]. Nowadays, hydrogels still have much increasing interest from scientists, and enormous developments have been made regarding their formulations and biotechnological applications [3, 4]. Hydrogels can also be divided into two clusters based on their natural or synthetic origins [5]. Hydrogelbased natural polymers include polysaccharides such as cellulose, alginate, and chitosan, and proteins such as gelatin and collagen. These types of hydrogel have many beneficial features such as biodegradability, excellent biocompatibility, and low toxicity [6, 7]. Chitosan (CS) is a natural amino functionalized polysaccharide and can be extracted from marine substances such as crabs [8]. Chitosan has an excellent advantage and specific characteristic properties such as low toxicity, antibacterial activity, antifungal activity, antioxidant activity biodegradability and [9,10]. Amine and hydroxyl groups along with chitosan backbone exhibit its hydrophilic character that is utilized as a component of hydrogel in biomedical and pharmaceutical industries [11].
