Abstract

Toxicity study: Determination of median lethal dose of guava leaves extract, several concentrations of guava leaves extract (50, 100, 200 and 300 mg) dissolved in 0.5 ml sterile water which equal (2000, 4000, 8000, 12000) mg/kg mice. Four group of Swiss albino mice (25g) prepared; each group contain six Swiss albino mice were maintained under conventional laboratory conditions (25±2°C) with free access to food.
 Life span prolongation: Life span prolongation was calculated for each Ehrlich and protective and Therapeutic groups.
 EAC cells counting: Ehrlich Ascites cells was counted in Ehrlich, Protective and therapeutic groups.
Animals and tumor model: The animal was grouped to five groups:
 group A (control): the mice were orally with 0.5ml saline solution only 5 doses day after day for 10 days.
 group B (guava leaves extract): the mice were orally with guava leaves extract only day after day by 125mg/0.5ml of indicated extract 5 dose for 10 days.
 group C (Ehrlich Ascites): the mice were IP injected with Ehrlich Ascites 0.2 ml (2×106 cell) only for 6 days.
 group D (Protective): the mice were orally with guava leaves extract two doses day after day before IP injected with Ehrlich Ascites and then orally with 3 doses of guava leaves extract day after day for 10 days. At the end of the experiment, blood samples were collected for biochemical examinations, Ehrlich cancer cells for counting, and liver tissue for histological examinations.
