Abstract

Salivary gland ductal pathologies include sialolithiasis, inflammatory disorders e.g. juvenile recurrent parotitis, radioactive-iodine induced sialadenitis and Sjogren’s disease as well as anatomic obstruction from focal strictures or ductal stenosis.
Salivary imaging is a very important tool for diagnosis and preoperative mapping of salivary ductal disorders. Conventional sialography is a relatively invasive approach in relation to the newer imaging modalities. Ultrasonography is considered the best initial radiological tool particularly for salivary stones. Our preferred imaging protocol is non-contrast CT and MR sialography of salivary ducts.
Managing salivary ductal diseases was traditionally excising the affiliated salivary gland. Since the beginning of this century, growing evidence towards preserving the salivary glands has been established. Sialendoscopy and its associated approaches are the main platform for achieving this goal.
The aim of our study is to evaluate the minimally invasive techniques in the management of salivary ductal pathologies in terms of efficacy and safety and highlighting their indications and limitations.
