Abstract

A laser is an abbreviation that stands for light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation.
ND: YAG laser is considered a solid-state laser. It makes use of crystal as the laser’s medium. It has a 1064 nm wavelength and may penetrate greater thickness of skin than other types of lasers. It can penetrate from 5 to 7 mm into the dermis. It can be used for different purposes such as Vascular lesions as facial telangiectasia, pigments lesions as brown age spots (solar lentigines), and removal of hair. Recently it was proposed to have antimicrobial effect (antifungal, antiviral and antibacterial)
The rationale of the ND: YAG laser’s antibacterial action is due to its role in Onychomycosis, Dentistry, wart and wound infection
Skin microflora (skin microbiota) includes bacteria found on human skin. The bacterial flora of the skin is dominated by four phyla: Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, Bacteroidetes, and Firmicutes. Three genera, in particular, Staphylococcus, Corynebacterium, and Propionibacterium, form more than 60% of the bacterial species detected.
The axilla is classified as a unique habitat. The axillary microbiota is mostly composed of Staphylococcus species, aerobic and lipophilic diphtheroids (predominantly Corynebacterium species) and Propionibacterium species.
