Abstract

Summary Psoriasis is a common chronic inflammatory skin disorder that affects approximately 1%” ” " ~ " ” ”2% of the Western population, and is characterized by variably sized, well-demarcated, dry plaques usually covered with layers of fine, silvery scales.
Evidence shows an association of psoriasis with arthritis, depression, inflammatory bowel disease and cardiovascular diseases. Recently, several other comorbid conditions have been proposed as related to the chronic inflammatory status of psoriasis..
Although the pathogenesis of psoriasis is still not fully understood, various proinflammatory cytokines (e.g: TNF-α , ILs) and a number of cytokine receptors have been implicated in its pathogenesis and some of these are under investigation as therapeutic targets. IL17A has been implicated in the pathogenesis of many autoimmune and inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and psoriasis. There is also a role for IL17 in many cardiovascular diseases.
Secukinumab is a fully human monoclonal antibody that selectively inhibits IL-17A . It is currently FDA approved for plaque psoriasis, ankylosing spondylitis and psoriatic arthritis.
