Abstract

Conclusion
Adjuvant radiotherapy in bladder cancer associated with improvement in the OS and DFS.
We must increase the health awareness among community through initiatives and cultural programs to spread the awareness about urinary bladder cancer to help the diagnosis at early stage and reduce the diagnosis at late stage that associated with hydronephrosis.
Our study is a single center study, the results couldn’t be generalized to the entire local population. However, our hospital is a major tertiary care center treating patients from all over the governorate, we can speculate our results are representative of our population.
Summary
Introduction
Bladder cancer is one of the most prevalent malignancies among Egyptian males representing about 16 % and accounting for >7900 deaths per year which is considered higher than most of other parts of the world (Khaled H 2005).
Aim of the study
This retrospective study aims to assess the risk factors, prognosis and survival rates of urinary bladder cancer treated in Sohag University Hospital in the past 5 years from 2016 to 2020.
Patients and methods
This is a retrospective study conducted on patients with pathologically proven urinary bladder cancer treated in oncology department, Sohag University Hospital, from January 2016 to December 2020.
Inclusion criteria:
Age between 18 and 80 years. Both sexes.
All stages and grades of urinary bladder cancer.
Any histological types of urinary bladder cancer.
Exclusion criteria:
Age below 18 or beyond 80 years.
Presence of other malignancies.
This retrospective study was conducted by hand search in the files and sheets of the patient fulfilling the above mentioned eligibility criteria. Data management and statistical analysis were performed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) vs. 24.
Results
One hundred sixty eight patients who were fulfilling our eligibility criteria were included in our study the patient’s age range between (36 years-80 years) with mean age at 61.1 years. The 6 months, 1, 2, 3 and 5 years OS of the whole cohort of patients are 76.2%, 57.7%, 23.3%, 18.4% and 16.6% respectively.
On analyzing the impact of different clinicopathological factors, we found that there was a significant association between OS and presence of pelvic pain, hydronephrosis, tumor size, (N&M) grading, presence of associated infiltration, receiving radiotherapy and presence of radiotherapy toxicity, (P-value<0.05). The 6 months, 2, 3, and 5 years DFS of whole cohort of patients are 52.4%, 32.5%, 17.6%, 17.6% and 15.4% respectively.
on analyzing the impact of different clinicopathological factors, we found that There was a significant association between DFS and presence of pelvic pain, hydronephrosis, tumor size, (N&M) status, presence of associated infiltration, receiving adjuvant radiotherapy and radiotherapy toxicity, (P-value<0.05).
