Abstract Supracondylar fractures are the most common pediatric fractures about the elbow and have a peak incidence in the first decade of life. Supracondylar fractures generally occur as a result of a fall onto the outstretched hand with the elbow in full extension. These fractures are divided into extension and flexion types, depending on the mechanism of injury and the direction of displacement of the distal fragment of the humerus. Extension type fractures are the most common; occur in more than 95% of cases, while flexion type injuries occur in less than 5% |
