Abstract

Background: Optical properties of dental ceramics are of prime importance in esthetic rehabilitation. Due to its optical and mechanical properties lithium disilicate glass ceramics are being widely used, they can be processed either by pressing or machining techniques to
create a full contoured restoration. Glazing or polishing are recommended to achieve a highly
esthetic restoration. Dentists usually prescribe chemical plaque control agent especially for
those undergoing fixed prosthodontic procedures. There is lack of information regarding the effect of these chemical agents on the color stability of ceramics restorations.
Aim of the study: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of mouth rinses on the color
stability of monolithic lithium disilicate glass ceramics with different surface treatments.
Materials and Methods: Fifty-six Lithium disilicate disc specimens will be fabricated using
two different processing techniques (CAD CAM and press) and then subjected to two
different surface treatments (polished and glazed). After that specimens will be immersed in
two different types of mouth washes (chlorhexidine and Listerine). Color coordinates will be measured using a digital spectrophotometer. Color differences will be evaluated using CIE LAB system.
Results: Data will be collected and statistically analyzed.
Keywords: Color, Lithium disilicate, CAD CAM ceramics, Pressed ceramics, Mouth washes,
Spectrophotometer.
