Abstract

PAS describes a clinical situation where the placenta does not detach spontaneously after delivery and cannot be forcibly removed without causing massive and potentially life-threatening bleeding. Ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging are reliable methods with high accuracy to facilitate differentiation between the three types of placental invasion.
ICL represents an independent predictor of placenta percreta and its incorporation into ultrasound examination will increase the diagnostic accuracy for prediction of CH and major postpartum hemorrhage in women with placenta previa.
Our prospective observational study was carried on 100 women with placenta previa at gestational age ≥24weeks who are referred to Obstetrics & Gynecology department at Suez Canal University Hospital, Ultrasound images obtained during the first examination at the time of referral or admission were reviewed to evaluate qualitatively and reach a consensus regarding the presence or absence of the new sonographic marker, ICL. ICL was defined as tortuous anechoic spaces within the cervix, which are hypervascular on color Doppler.
Including, patients diagnosed as placenta previa and their gestational age ≥24 weeks and excluding patients who refused to be included in the study and patients with upward placental migration noticed during follow up who were not considered as placenta previa or low lying placenta by the end of pregnancy.
Our study results have revealed that the mean age of the patients was (31.11 ± 5.56 years), the majority of them were housewives (81%), the highest percentage (70%) of the study sample were living in an urban area, the majority of the sample has at least one pervious cesarean section (88%).
About 50% of the patients with history of abortion had at least one previous
