Abstract Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is a chronic disease characterized by insulin deficiency due to pancreatic β-cell destruction and leads to hyper-glycaemia. The incidence of T1DM is increasing worldwide. There is considerable evidence that children and adolescents with T1DM experience poorer generic and diabetes related QOL in comparison to healthy peers. Insulin therapy is the gold standard treatment. The aim of diabetes management is to support patients with T1DM to live with a healthy life. Patients should receive proper training in the technical aspects of self-monitoring blood glucose as accurate measurement of BG values is essential for correct therapeutic decisions. Also training of carbohydrate counting and follow up investigations to prevent complications which may improves both glycemic control and QOL. This study aimed at promoting the quality of care provided to adolescents with T1DM. The study objectives were to assess the outcome of interventional program on metabolic control parameters (HBA1C, FBS, 2hpp and LDL) and QOL among adolescents with T1DM attending pediatric unit of DM at Suez Canal university hospital comparable with those attending health insurance hospital. Participants (n=124) were non-randomly allocated into two groups; interventional group who received intervention educational program, and control group; who received the uaual care. they were assessed in the form of Sociodemographic data, metabolic control parameters, generic and diabetes related QOL, disease profile, self-care activities at baseline and after 6 months. |
