Abstract
Communication is a process that allows us to share our ideas with other people. It includes listening and understanding with passion and respect as well as expressing views and ideas and passing information to others in a clear manner.
About 80% of doctoral works involve communication such as speaking, listening, and writing. But what we hear like the tone of the voice, vocal clarity and expressiveness conveys only 40% of the message. Facial expression, posture, eye contact, touch, and gesture can covey 50% of the message and words convey only 10% of the message.
Communication skills are defined by the performance of special tasks, which can be directly observed and assessed, such as obtaining and presenting a patient history.
According to the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), and the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) communication and interpersonal skills are among the essential competencies to be taught in the medical program.
Study Design:
The present study is a Pre-post intervention study that was conducted to assess basic communication skills for first-year medical students at Suez University before and after the implementation of an interventional program regarding communication skills.
The study was carried out in four family medicine units/centers affiliated with the Ministry of Health and Population (MOHP) in Suez Governorate (Al- Obour, Al-Sabah, Al-Mosalas, and Al-Suez) with a sample size of 109 students
