Abstract

In group I the number of patients who had history of previous
treatment to acne vulgaris was 12 (46.2%) whereas 14patients (53.8%)
had no history of previous treatment. In group II the number of patients
who had history of previous treatment to acne vulgaris was 15 (57.7%)
wheras11patients (42.3%) had no history previous treatment. There was
no significant difference between the two studied groups regarding
duration of the disease (p=0.41).
Efficacy Assessments:
In Dapsone gel 5% group, the mean number of inflammatory
lesions count decreased from45.46± SD 22.3 to12.35± SD11.7 after 12
weeks therapy and the percent of change was75.90±SD15.70%, while in
erythromycin 2% ointment group, the mean number of inflammatory
lesions count decreased from49.15 ±SD22.27 to16.27 ± SD 15.72 after 12
weeks therapy and the percent of change was69.60 ± SD 23.20%. There
were higher mean percentage reduction in inflammatory lesions counts
from baseline in the patients of dapsone group than in the patients of
erythromycin all visits of follow-up, but without statistically significant
differences (p>0.05).
In Dapsone gel 5% group: the improvement in mean number of non
inflammatory lesions started to be significant at 2nd and 4th week. The
mean number of noninflammatory lesion counts decreased from 20.00
±SD 14.39 to10.88 ±SD 11.44 after 12 weeks therapy and the percent of
change was 59.92 ±SD 28.90 %. Statistically there was a significant
difference at weeks 2 and 4 of follow-up in the patients of dapsone group
than in the patients of erythromycin group.

Summary
The improvement in the mean number of the total lesions in
dapsone gel 5% group showed significant improvement at 2nd and 6th
weeks. The mean number of lesions decreased from 62.73±SD 27.53 to
22.31 ±SD 17.79 and the percent of change was 67.66 ±SD 24.84%.
Statistically there was a significant difference between the dapsone gel
